In 2006 I thanked my listeners with a free download of O Come O Come Emmanuel.
In 2007 I did the same with a quiet version of Silent Night.
And for 2008, I with the help of Mr Martin Luther himself wrote a song that I call "God Has Come To Earth" which is yours for free, we're not even going to ask for your email and zip code this time. (my favorite submission was from jjj@rrrrr.kk with zip code "qwert". We won't be contacting them to let them know when we're in the area)

I started writing this chorus years ago and thought it just screamed of Christmas. I wanted a chimey melody like bells that would be reminiscent of an angelic proclamation. I loved the chorus, but as always, every time I tried to write verses, I just laughed at their silliness. That's why I'm learning to like the art of co-writing. Especially with people who have already died. They never argue with my ideas. Martin Luther wrote a Christmas Carol around 1500 called "All Praise To Thee Eternal Lord" that compares and contrasts the Powerful King that Christ was, in charge of The Universe, to the tiny baby He became in the next moment. The words are powerful. So I snagged them. :)

I'll write more about the background of the song soon: but for now, Enjoy it! and Ask Your Local Radio Station to give it a Spin! Go ahead, don't be shy, give them a call! ;)

Okay, so my question here is: Where can I get "Silent Night" and "O Come, Emmanuel"? I missed those over the last years and would love to take a listen!

Aaron Shust said...

AND...the download isn't working properly. hold on.

Aaron Shust said...

O Come and Silent Night (unless I can successfully get them to stream on a new MySpace page without MySpace blocking me cause they think I'm posting someone else's songs) will be available in a few year on the Christmas Album I make. Until then, they're only on my iPod. :(

Mayra said...

Praise the Lord the download works!!! Yayy =)

Heather said...

If you right click on the link and click "save target as" then you can get the free download. Just letting everyone know :)

this sounds fantastic. beautiful as usual :D great blog too-- i love it.

Aaron Shust said...

EXCELLENT! So glad it's working for some of you. For those of us with Macs, Right Clicking is a little trickier. It involves the lovely control button. but as many times as I've done that (and even downloaded from this very site last week) it's not working for me. So anyone having trouble, you're not crazy. I'll try to clear this up. but for now, i need to tuck my kid in bed. :) Thanks for your patience!

Aaron Shust said...

hey, i'm trying to recommend to the powers that be in my team to provide Silent Night and O Come on iTunes. for 99 cents, not free. but as of now, they're not available. legally. :)
so stay tuned

Aaron Shust said...

OK I CHANGED THE WORDING ON THE LINK at the bottom of the post. Follow those instructions and it should work. I think i'm done for the night. whew!

Enjoy the music my friends.

Oh- Bro' - Staying on that Subject, When YOU write silly lyrics, on a Chorus For A Christmas SONG , DON't Forget There's An Audience , Sometimes Overlooked, (Children !!! ) Kids might find Songs Like Those - A DELIGHT ! So please don't exclude them , even if the words seem "Too childish " ! Please ! : o D

Tell us some of your Zany Lyrics , so we can LAUGH !

Mayra said...

Aaron, Thank you for all your trouble!!! We REALLY appreciate it.

It'll be awesome if Silent Night becomes available on iTunes because I have O Come but I somehow missed Silent Night....

Looks like Faithful is gonna win the poll....YAY!!! =)

Aaron Shust said...

regarding anonymous' comment about my 'silly' (as i described them) lyrics being childish or zany...i merely meant that they were not up to my own standards, not that they were comical. Just not good enough in my opinion.

PS any comment that isn't posted is because I'm trying to keep the comments on the topic of the post. Some comments seem to be personal messages to me, and not comments. while i do read them, I won't be posting them necessarily :)

Aaron, Thanks for sharing. I love the idea of breathing new life into hymns and using them to reach a new generation. I have been trying to do this myself so I really appreciate this. Plus, going with an amazing hymn writer like Martin Luther is a sure thing. Great Chorus! Thank you for sharing with us.

I would definitely purchase the other songs (heck, any of them) from iTunes. If you could make them available, that would be fantastic! Great job on this one as well. Your voice produces an excellent sound that carries so much emotion!

I don't get a download command when I right click on the link. I have WinXP. I can listen to it, but for some reason no option of download. Help? Thanks and thanks for visiting with us the other night on MMTV. You should be next on live shustube.

I never downloaded the 2006, 2007 & 2008 Christmas songs. Is there any chance that you can offer them again??? The 2009 one is great!

Chosen said...

I am a little mixed up on my years (re: previous comment). We have not even made it to 2009. I was able to find O Come O Come Emmanuel download, but not Silent Night.

Thanks for the God honoring music.

Aaron Shust said...

baylormum. i remember you from the MM show!
hey, i don't know how to work XP. hopefully someone else can help! :/

If you are using XP (or Vista for that matter), you need to right-click on the link and select the option labeled: "Save Target As...". It is usually the 4th option.

I know Thanksgiving isn't over yet, but I have been thinking about Christmas, and my favoirte Christmas carol came to mind of course. Very few people know the original lyrics with all three choruses, which happen to be quite powerful. Unfortunately they rarely, if ever get sung in churches at Christmas time, so I thought I would post them here.......

What Child is this who laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet
While Shepherd's watch are keeping

This, this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing
Haste, haste to bring him laud
The Babe, the Son of Mary

Why lies He in such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding
Good Christian fear for sinners here
the silent word is pleading

Nail's spear shall pierce Him through
The Cross be born for me for you
Hail, hail the Word made flesh
The babe the Son of Mary

So bring Him incense, gold, and myrhh
Come peasant, king to own Him
The King of kings salvation brings
Let loving hearts enthrone Him

Raise, raise the song on high
The virgin sings her lullaby
Joy, joy for Christ is born
The babe, the Son of Mary

I LOVE your version of O Come, O Come Emmanuel, I fell in love with it last year and hope that it works out for you to get it on itunes! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

Kelly said...

What's that? An Aaron Shust Christmas album coming soon? How bout NEXT year...not in a FEW years :p Nah, I know how hard it is to make an album...just watched my uncle go through that whole! Can't wait! Thanks for the free music in the meantime :)

And thanks for forgetting to join us for the Jeremy Camp show! :p You woulda had tons of was massive chaos! Spammers galore, technical difficulties, etc until Dale came to our rescue!

Brody actually came in and laughed at us cause he wasn't in charge and was able to sit back and watch the chaos and not have to do anything about it. So not cool! :p

Anyways, just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to you and the rest of the Shust family!

God bless!

I love the song "God had come to earth"...Can you please send me the lyrics for it...

Happy Thanksgiving Aaron!

Melody Joy Francis said...

HAPPY THANKGSIVING to you too, although I am not sure how I feel about you calling us all TWITS! LOL, JK! Hope you enjoy the day with your family. When is your wife due by the way? Will be praying for a safe, easy delivery, and a healthy baby! :0)

Aaron, thanks so much for all of your hard work and determination in getting the song out to us! I deeply appreciate it! The song is Wonderful! (I was able to download it successfully by using the "save target as" option using WindowsXP)

I remember hearing the song "O Come, Emmanuel" last year on myspace but I don't remember "Silent Night." I look forward to getting the songs either on iTunes or on your Christmas album.

I can somewhat relate to you what you are meaning that the 'silly' lyrics don't meet your personal standards. I scrapbook and there are many times I don't like my scrapbook pages because they don't meet my personal standards.

I wasn't at MMTV, this past Sunday, because I was watching 24: Redemption. One other time when you were on MMTV, i was in there. We ended up chatting about the Wildwood show. It was great chatting with you at Wildwood and in MMTV! Have a Happy Thanksgiving with your family!!!

I have your Free Downloads of 2006's 'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel', and 2007's 'Silent Night' by you, Aaron. And thank you so much for the great Christmas music. I've been watching for more of your Free Christmas downloads every year. And will continue to do so, but I'm not able to download the full version of this year's song. I've followed the easy directions and I'm used to downloads but it's just not working right. Please help. *Also, I am very excited to hear that you will be putting out a Christmas album and very eager to buy it! :-) Can't wait! :-)
Merry Christmas to you and your family! God bless you all. :-)

Aaron Shust said...

I feel your frustration Brian, I truly do. I, too, feel like i know how to download things and have had much trouble even testing this. I got it to work for myself, but that's not really good enough ;)

My team have been working on making this so easy a caveman could do it, and now that Thxgvg weekend is over, I'd like to think that by end of business on monday or tuesday, it will be easily accessible.

i hope. Peace. and thanks for your patience :D

Dear Aaron, I think I figured out the problem (at least my own) with downloading your latest Christmas song. I had to sign in to my iGoogle account here first (which I had to do to post a comment here). Also, if anyone would like to find an Aaron Shust Christmas song to download for free, you can find it by going to the iGoogle Blog search and looking for Aaron Shust. You may have to sign up with your email and password but it's well worth the effort.
Thanks Aaron for your wonderful music. Cheers and Merry Christmas!

Is it possible to get a copy of your soundtrack for O Come, O Come Emmanuel? I'm working as Interim Music Director at a Hispanic Church not far from Nashville, (in the 'Boro) and have a young person interested in singing something special for the Christmas season. I think this would be the perfect song / arrangement!

Aaron Shust said...

hey Wesley,
i wasn't able to access your profile: i guess it's set to private...We did not create a soundtrack to any of the Christmas songs. Since I offer them for free we do it on a 'shoestring budget' which means "make it sound good and that's it" :D The plan is to put these songs on my Christmas Album one year, and I'd like to think that at that point, a decision will be made to make accompaniment tracks for some.

I guess in the meanwhile, you'd just have to play it live. :) more fun that way anyhow.

Drew Scott said...

Is there any chance you'd put up the chords? this would be a great congregational song for us this season. I started making some notes on the chords in G, but a chart would be brilliant. Thanks.

my verification word is dientel - a customer of Weight Watchers, I assume.

Aaron Shust said...

Hey Drew, while I know the chords of course, we never really 'typed' them out. we just played it.

it's in the key of F# with a key change to A.
The chords are just the I, V, IV, vi and ii on the verses.
The chorus has a V in second inversion.

The key change goes to a D then walks up to the A.

like i said, I've never written it out. It's just up here (tapping my noggin)

Wesley said...

I just wanted to say that I haven't seen any artist, Christian or otherwise, who takes the time to field and respond to all his fans' requests / comments. Major props for that.

Hey Aaron,

Thank you for the song. I love the way the bass guitar is played at 01:17 to 01:23. I do know some friends of mine who play the same way you guys play in the US. But they have'nt got any chance for the world to see. If you could help us go forward, it would be great. Thanks again for the song.

I don't recall the Silent Night but I think I got the free Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel download earlier in the year. I was linked to it by a site that is like a database for free and legal Christian Music Downloads. It's how I found this. I'll give the song a try, thanks.

Hey there Aaron,
Thankyou for this lovely song, we would love to use it this Christmas at church. Re copyright, I assume we just do the usual? (I'm in Australia - we submit records of lyric print-outs and projections to ccli).
I've had a close listen and tried to write out a chord chart in F#, but also a transposition in D. I had a go putting it up, but of course its too long for the blog. Thanks again for this song, Liz.

Our sunday school children have been learning this song to present to the church for Christmas. We love it! We were wondering if there is an accompaniment track available. While we could provide an accompanying guitarist, we would lose out on the tinkly loveliness of the music if we did that.
(regardless, thanks for creating a beautiful arrangement that helps our kids connect Christmas to salvation!)
