Stars Will Fall...(even if we're not looking)

One of the new songs I've written (this one with Jason Ingram) is called Stars Will Fall.  The theme is, in a nutshell, that when we are at the end of our rope, there is power in calling Jesus' name.  "Stars will fall like rain, all the heavens and the earth will start to shake, every mountain will be moved and cast away at the mention of Your name".  Now that I have preliminary copies of the recording, I played it for my parents when they were over last week, and this morning my Mom called me to tell me she was in bed last night, looking out her picture window which gives her an incredible view of the night sky and the stars were especially bright.  She told me that my song was traveling through her head at the moment she saw a bright shooting star race across the sky from one end to the other.   She was still relishing that moment and hoping for another when, lo and behold (I've never actually ever typed those words before) there shot another star!

She wondered how many shooting stars actually take place on average, but we are just too busy with what's down here to notice.

It's not to hard to glean some lesson out of that.  God performs miracles, large and small, all around us, everyday, maybe right in front of our faces.  But unless we 'lift our eyes', chances are we'll miss them.

Paul Baloche said it: "Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, I want to see you"
Bebo Norman said it:
"I will lift my eyes to the Maker of the mountains I can't climb.
I will lift my eyes to the Calmer of the oceans raging wild.
I will lift my eyes to the Healer hurt I hold inside.
I will lift my eyes...to You."

Wow,I know this post is about "lifting our eyes" to the miracles that God is preforming all around us, but what keeps sticking in my heart is where you say "when we are at the end of our rope, there is power in calling Jesus' name" because I really feel like I'm at the end of my rope (probably because finals week is fast approaching), but I have not called out to Jesus. Thank you for the reminder Aaron!

p.s. I really hope "O Come, All Ye Faithful" wins because that's my favorite song and your my favorite musician!

I am such a self centered person- I naturally think the world and all that is in it revolve around me. So of course, I think God and his greatness must too! How backwards is that? God created the world for HIS glory. To please HIM, to honor HIM. Stars falling from the sky, beauty in the autumn leaves, every sunset....they are not for me, but for HIM!

oh i think you're right: for His Glory. but I also think it's for our pleasure.

that's what I think at least

Oh I agree...I just tend to think that everything is for ME alone. You know what I mean? God seems to provide beauty for me to capture all the time and I know that He takes pleasure in allowing me this pleasure. I hope this makes sense, my thoughts are a bit jumbled!

that makes total sense Bethany. we're on the same page. that' the cool thing about blogs, you can discuss and bounce ideas and not have to 'make sense' in the first pass. i know i don't. :)

Martin Luther can't be Your only INSPIRATION ! When there's SO MANY >>> LIVING SONG-Writing GENIUSES You Could CO-WRITE WITH ! You're Right, in that We NEED a BOOST sometimes , when we reach " writers block " , And Martin Luther got You PUMPED & STIMULATED your Creativity ! Sorry if I got off , on a Tangent-but Martin Luther was indeed an Exceedingly Great Beacon OF LIGHT & TRUTH , A GUIDING STAR in His Brilliance of Intellect ! So-There- More ABOUT STARS... And Sometimes They ARE God's SAINTS- shining RESPLENDENTLY BRIGHT as ALWAYS ...And CONTINUALLY Inspiring US ONWARD IN OUR FAITH !

Yeah it's weird. I've been almost obssessing over sunsets and sunrises and the moon and trees and stars and how wonderful and majestic they are. And I think I realize now the reason why I've been taking such notice of nature and it's cuz right now I feel the most spiritually connected and focused on God than I've ever been and recognizing nature has been such an awesome way to embrace God's glory. And it's funny you talk about shooting stars cuz I had just recently seen one for the first time in my life and I was so excited! And I had wondered the same thing your mom did about them and you're so right when you say we just have to open our eyes. It's so simple but it's so true. You know I really like these blog things. It shows how down to earth you are. And I'm wondering, how do you stay so humble and continue to live a somewhat normal life in the midst of your music and touring? I've always wanted to ask someone like you that question and many other questions and actually get answers cuz I feel God has spoken to me and has called me to be a christian singer/songwriter like yourself but I just don't know if I have all that it takes you know? Did you ever feel like that?
