Kenya

This is my first trip to Africa.  I'm here with Compassion International on a tour that Big Stuf Ministries out of Atlanta, Georgia is taking for their Summer Intern leaders to experience the work of Compassion first hand in the country of Kenya.  They were kind enough to let me tag along.

We flew from Atlanta to Amsterdam in 8 hours, then to Nairobi in another 8.   I bought a smoothie 30 minutes before the flight when Keith Bordeaux with Compassion, a seasoned international traveler, offered me an Ambien to help me sleep.  I said thanks and popped it in my mouth.  With a mouthful of smoothie to help me swallow, everyone at the table yelled, "You're taking it now!?"  Gulp.

By the time I was boarding the plane, I was speaking nonsense, shot a video of Keith from my seat, took two close-up pictures of my face and sent a twitter message for all 2,800 followers to see saying "Mocing. 8 hours. I love you.  We're going to watch a wideo now.  Luv u.  I have hiccyps!!!"   I not only have no clue what that means, but I don't remember doing any of it.

I'm think I'm done with the Ambien.

We all checked into our hotel here in Nairobi, grabbed a quick bite and headed for bed.  This morning we visited the slums of Kibera, an area of 1 million people in the size of Central Park.  We visited the Emmanuel Church Child Development Center and saw how God is rescuing the lives of children (like Ruth, above) through donations from people all over the world, giving them hope and joy and dreams!  We sang, worshiped, laughed, played soccer, raced, ate, held hands, gave huge hugs, visited one little girl's home (about the size of my hotel room...which is small) and fell in love with the People of Kenya.

Aaron - I read your twitter message and thought it was rather strange. Have a safe trip in Kenya - and let us know what we can do to help. I listened to your sneak peek of "Take Over" - it's amazing. Thank you.

That's so cool! Did your family get to go with you? A friend's daughter just finished a two year work in missions in Nigeria.

LOL on the Ambien. That stuff can be dangerous! I've taken it too and it can make you loopy. But my poor 15 year old freaked her daddy and I out when she took ZYRTEC...she was very very high and it scared us, yet she was hilariious acting, but seriously no more ZYRTEC for my 99 pound 15 year old.

Oh, I took Ambien for awhile after a car accident I had. My kids have some hilarious stories of me after I took the stuff. I was out of it pretty fast!

Hey Friend! How great that you are in Africa! Thanks for the song leak, sounds great and I can't wait to hear more! I txted you about getting together in Pa. this summer, but perhaps there aren't "4 bars" where you are. No worries. Let me know when you get back and maybe we can make something happen! Squeeze!

My Brother,

it has certainly been my experience in mission field that the blessings you are so deliberately allowing God to do thru you for the people abroad, compares none to the blessings HE pours out on you for being willing to follow HIM where HE leads.

Thanks for the explanation, I was wondering what you were trying to say, haha.

Praying for you, thanks for updating us on all the good deeds taking place.

PS, I take Ambien, but it makes me a little loopy if I don't go STRAIGHT to bed after taking it.....mornings are good though. It's the only sleep medication that has consistently worked well for me! :0) Glad to hear your trip went well. NOW you just need to take a "vacation" with your lovely little family to North Eastern PA to do a show at my church, New Life Baptist Church, in Scranton, PA! We'll put you guys up in this great hotel that used to be a train station back in the day, REALLY cool! I'm thinkin' Daniel would LOVE it, and you could take him to Steamtown to see all the cool trains etc. :0) Have a great holiday! Love in the MATCHLESS and AWESOME Name of our Jesus! ~MJ

Haha! I remember getting that Tweet when I was in CO, and telling my friend "He must have accidentally tweeted that to everyone instead of Direct Messaging Sarah."

Hey Aaron - Love the "Live to Lose" sneak preview! You have a special gift from God! For some reasonI really liked watching your hand as you played the guitar - and how you moved your thumb - I don't play guitar, maybe that's why it interested me. Thanks for sharing your music.

You are hilarious!
This kind of reminds me of that time I was sick on Christmas eve, and I took some Tylenol, and we were trying to make Christmas cookies and I was the egg-cracker and I started cracking eggs into the trash can and putting the shells in the bowl.
