Michael Surgery Eve

My boy.
It's Mother's Day morning and the last day of the Called To Love Tour.  I'm sitting on the bus on a rainy day outside of Dayton, Ohio.  I just had a special Mother's Day breakfast with Downhere's own Glenn Lavender at the Bob Evens and now I'm waiting to be taken to the airport to pick up my rental car so I can start driving home as the strands of music from the last chord of my set are still ringing in the air.

Michael's surgery is tomorrow morning.  I'll get a couple hours of sleep after kissing Daniel and Nicky hello and goodnight in their beds, we'll drop them off at the neighbor's before sunrise and head down to Pittsburgh.  Michael has had a very hard time breathing in the last week, as expected with his heart straining harder and harder to oxygenate.  So this surgery couldn't be a day sooner.

Contrary to rumor, Michael is not having a transplant.  His Complete AV Septal Defect demands Gore-Tex walls to be inserted that should stretch and grow for the rest of his life with valves inserted too.  His heart doesn't work properly right now, Lord willing tomorrow it will, whether God creates flesh before the doctors get to it, or Michael will be part Gore-Tex for the rest of this life. :)

Because of his age and weight and the nature of the surgery, this is a high risk procedure.  I appreciate your concern and your prayers for the doctors and all involved!  We trust in God's unfailing love.  We trust in His sovereignty.  We pray earnestly for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.

I will wait on You
You are my refuge

Oh God, Oh God....great Physician, come to Michael, his family and the medical team. Give peace and rest in the time leading to surgery; and keen eyes and steady hands during surgery. Grant peace to Aaron and Sarah as they wait. Lord may the healing be quick and complete....may Michael run around his home before very long!

A little over 5 years and 2 months ago, we were where you are. Our 3-month-1-week-old little 10-pound bundle was in failure and needed her heart to be fixed. She also had complete AV canal and the holes were no small little openings.

Our little patched-up princess has been 100% perfectly repaired and has been Miss Perky ever since.

We'll be praying here in StL, remembering the long wait for updates from the docs and that first view of the mass of wires afterward. It's alot, but it's beautiful, because the healing has started by the time you get to see him.

Our journey is told in several posts if find you're interested in seeing how it looked... http://braskabear.blogspot.com/2008/02/my-hearts-been-fixed-one-year.html

We were blessed with the best of care, and we pray the same for you.

Aaron we watched you perform here in Grand Forks, ND. It is evident that God is working through you to touch many souls with the love of God. You and your family are going through so very much at this time but you continue to spread the word of God and do his work. I am humbled by your unwavering faith.

Dear father in heaven. We come to you on bended knees asking for strength, peace and a quick recovery for Michael. Guide the surgeons hands as they work to fix Michaels heart. Put your loving arms around the Schust family during this time. We ask this in the name of your son Jesus, Amen!

I will pray for your sweet boy. Our daughter had OHS scheduled at one point, but she never ended up needing it. But this is a link I found helpful, when we thought she was going in: http://theblessingofverity.com/2010/08/if-your-baby-needs-open-heart-surgery/
I've heard so many say that their child was so much stronger and gained weight so much better after the surgery, and I'm sure your little one will be the same. I will be praying, and I'll link back here on my blog and ask people to pray. Prayerfully, Tricia at Life is Beautiful

I meet with You//and my soul finds rest//

Abba Jesus,
We come before you with a little nervousness, but we are trusting You. We praise You in spite of all this, because all this IS temporary. You are so good. Jesus, I pray for peace like a river to flow over Aaron and Sarah. I pray that the surgery would go beautifully- that you would guide the doctor in every action he/she takes. I pray over all the family and loved ones involved and pray Your calmness over them. That they would have quietness and trust. Lord God, I pray over the operation room, the home the boys will stay at, and the waiting room… You are so in control,LORD. :) We praise You. Our hope is indeed You.

I too remember the anticipation and worry but also the calm knowing that God put this child here and put the doctors here to fix the AV issue. I pray all goes without complications and the recovery as well. When done the feeling of relief should be wonderful. God Bless the whole family.

Samantha had correction of the same heart defect at 4 months old. It's never easy to turn your child over to the surgical team, but know Michael's in good hands. Thinking of him today, hoping for an uncomplicated surgery, and a swift recovery!
